We are proud to announce the successful completion of the Qantas hangar project as the Geotechnical Engineer of the Record and Quality Controller. The job consisted of massive grading operations for a large area located on the west end of the airport and included grading of a large-span hangar, with a footprint of about 110,000sf, as well as taxiway connectors and aprons. The project was under the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) authority.

Dr. Shawn Ariannia had a presentation at City and County Engineers Association (CCEA) of Los Angeles on September 6, 2016. The topic of his presentation was “Geotechnical Pavement Evaluation and Rehabilitation”. He discussed the most common issues and challenges of flexible pavements that cities in southern California deal with the most. The subjects he covered during the presentation included:

City of Commerce Eastern Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project Became An Award Winner

Geo-Advantec, Inc. proudly announces that the City of Commerce Eastern Avenue pavement rehabilitation project won the “Efficient and Sustainable Road Maintenance, Construction, and Reconstruction Project” in 2017 Outstanding Local Streets and Roads Award Program.

The award was presented to Ms. Maryam Babaki, the city of Commerce Director of Public Works, at the League of California Cities Annual Conference held in San Diego, in March 2017.

Geo-Advantec, Inc. contributed to this unique project by performing as the geotechnical and pavement engineer.

City of Commerce Washington Boulevard Widening and Reconstruction Project Became An Award Winner

Geo-Advantec, Inc. proudly announces that the City of Commerce “Washington Boulevard Widening and Reconstruction” project won the “Transportation Award” of American Public Works Association (APWA) of Southern California in 2017.

The award was presented to Ms. Maryam Babaki, the city of Commerce Director of Public Works, at the 18th Annual Awards Luncheon on December 14, 2017.

Washington Boulevard is a major east-west corridor that passes through the City of Commerce located within the Gateway Cities region. It serves as one of the significant connectors between I-710 and I-5 Freeways carrying approximately 35,000 vehicles per day, 25% of that being truck traffic. The project scope included rehabilitation, reconstruction, and widening, covering a 2.7-mile-segment of Washington Boulevard between Indiana Street and Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway.

Geo-Advantec, Inc. (GAI) contributed to this unique project as the pavement consultant to the city and Caltrans certified laboratory. GAI team performed field quality assurance inspection and soils and materials laboratory testing.

Geo-Advantec Presentation at City and County Engineers Association and Iranian American Society of Civil Engineers in August 2019

Dr. Shawn Ariannia had two presentations at City and County Engineers Association and Iranian American Society of Civil Engineers about Preventive Pavement Maintenance. He discussed the most cost- effective policy to prolong pavement life through implementing pavement preventive maintenance rather than allowing pavement to deteriorate to a highly distressed condition before restoration. He provided examples on highway agencies’ shift toward implementation of a more comprehensive prevention program due to funding limitations. The presentation discussed summary of recent and ongoing studies about the concept of Optimal Timing of Application of Preventive Maintenance. He also talked about the importance of geotechnical aspects of pavement engineering.
